Macau rugby club’s first team, Macau 1 beat seven rival teams to win the cup in the men’s division of the SJM Macau Beach Rugby Tournament at Hac Sa Beach, Macau last Saturday, while the women’s competition was won by Hong Kong Valley Pink Ladies.

 

 

The ninth annual tournament was organised by the Macau Rugby Union and sponsored by Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (SJM).

Eight men’s teams and five women’s teams from four different cities took part in the tournament between noon and 6pm.The five-a-side games played on a 25 metre by 20 metre pitch are much quicker than traditional rugby and a fun way to hone ball handling skills on the run-up to the new season.

 

The men’s teams included Macau 1 and Macau 2; City of Dreams (Macau); Shekou (mainland China); Rams (Guangzhou, China); HK University, Taipo Dragons, and Kowloon (Hong Kong).

The five participating women’s teams were HKCC, HKFC Ice, Hong Kong Valley Pink Ladies, Taipo Dragons and Shekou.

 

Macau 1 took the honours in the cup by outscoring Hong Kong University 4-2 in the final. Kowloon defeated Shekou 5-3 to be awarded the plate.

 

Hong kong Valley Pink Ladies' women cruised to victory in their final with a 7-2 victory over Hong Kong Football Club Ice.
