Teams announced for Cable & Wireless Hong Kong Women’s Rugby Sevens 2010

The twelve participating teams for the Cable & Wireless Worldwide Hong Kong Women’s Rugby Sevens 2010 (HKWRS) have been announced today by the tournament organizers.  The event will be held on Friday March 26, 2010 at the Hong Kong Football Club with the Cup final being played at 7.04pm in the Hong Kong Stadium as part of the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2010.

Phuket lads rise to challenge in Bangkok

Patana School on Sukumvit Soi 105 was the venue for the ever popular Bangkok International 10's tournament over the weekend of 20th & 21st February. It was also the next saga in the development process of our junior rugby development program. As we had a couple of 14 year olds who needed a run out it was decided to enter a team into the U 14's instead of the U 12's which most of our players qualified for and being in an older age group would be a big step up in experience and competition.

Silver for Phuket Under 12’s in first ever official tournament

The Phuket under 12s journeyed to Bangkok for their first official tournament, held at Kasetsart University over the weekend of the 19th & 20th of December. Arriving a day early after the arduous drive from Bangkok, the squad were fresh and hyped up for their first game, which turned out to be against the tournament favourites, one of the oldest and most famous rugby schools in the Kingdom, Kings College.

Welcome to Rugby in Thailand. Traditionally the strongest teams in Thailand have come from the military and the police. There are also several very good university sides and a number of expatriate based clubs.

The Thai men’s national team competed in Division 1 of the Asian 5 nations this year and the women’s 7’s team took part in the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009 in Dubai.

Having been formed in 1883, which meant they knew what they were doing!! Having told the Vagabonds that they were a team of old crocks, who just wanted a social run around, they turned up with a full squad of 1st grade to 5th grade players.

  • Youth rugby in Phuket

    The first of many youth rugby sessions was held at the Prince of Songkla University (PSU) on Saturday 3rd October. A healthy 40 or so kids turned up for the inaugural session, along with some older burnt out versions of youth, who proceeded to help out with the training session. David Weale of the PSU was on hand to welcome everyone on behalf of the university.

  • Korea steals the show

    Korea beat its fiercest rugby rival Japan twice in the past 24 hours to take the gold medal at the first ever Asian Rugby Sevens Series event, the Shanghai Sevens, held yesterday and today at the Shanghai Rugby Club.  In the 3rd/4th place decider Hong Kong topped Chinese Taipei 24-10.
